A soldier is mysteriously murdered in the forest near his service post. His mother will struggle to discover what is behind this crime, unraveling a plot that involves the military and religious leaders of the small community of Cachoeira do Descuido.
In 2004, two soldiers stationed at an air base in Fortaleza were found shot to death. Declared by the Military Justice as a case of homicide followed by suicide, the case was resolved. Under pressure from family members, the case was reopened and the base chaplain was charged with the crimes. Absolved due to the lack of indisputable evidence, the case continues today without a definitive solution that explains what happened that day. CACHOEIRA DO DESCUIDO is inspired by the real case to create a fictional universe with new dramatic elements, bringing the space-time of the characters to the issues of our contemporaneity. Directly approaching the universes of military experience and religious practice, CACHOEIRA DO DESCUIDO develops in a small town allowing the authorities of these two instances to mix to the point that they are even brothers. The film thus dives into these two doctrines that demand, either through the path of faith or through military hierarchy and discipline, the subservience of individuals to a higher authority. It is in this universe that Selma will become the protagonist in the search for justice and the truth about the murder of her son. Torn between her own faith and the difficulty of facing the reality of her son’s homosexuality, Selma will have to face her own prejudices in the face of unconditional love.
